Welcome to…
Concussion recovery is a team effort. GPs, physiotherapists, neurologists, osteopaths, chiropractors, psychologists, sports medicine practitioners and naturopaths (to name but a few) all have a role to play, and so do the sporting clubs, schools and organisations that are closest to the people affected by concussion injuries. Concussion Academy is connecting the chain.
The Concussion Academy is a place for all.
Concussion is a complex injury. The physiological consequences of head trauma extend well beyond the brain, touching the gut, the immune system, the endocrine system and the body's capacity to produce energy at a cellular level and so much more. The research is clear that people with persistent symptoms do best with multimodality, interdisciplinary care, where different practitioners contribute what their training equips them to address.
I work in this space every day as a clinical naturopath, and I see how many extraordinary practitioners are already doing important work in concussion care. Neurologists, vestibular physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, sports medicine doctors, osteopaths, psychologists, and even specialist optometrists and audiologists who work with concussion patients. The care available is far more expansive than most patients or practitioners realise.
What I have also come to understand is that navigating that ecosystem can be quite difficult. Knowing who to refer to, when, and why is not always clear, even for experienced clinicians. And knowing where naturopathic care fits within it is something most practitioners have simply never had reason to consider.
That is what the Concussion Academy is here to help with. I am committed to advancing concussion care collectively, and that means contributing what I know, connecting people with what others know, and building something that makes the whole picture a little clearer for everyone working in this space.
Whether concussion is your specialist area, something you see occasionally in practice, or a challenge you are navigating in your organisation or club, there is something here for you.
Concussion is systemic. The care needs to be too.
An education hub for the practitioners of all types; clinical, naturopathic, and on the ground in sport committed to closing the gap in concussion and post-concussion care.
-
Concussion recovery works best when practitioners work together. The Concussion Academy exists to strengthen those connections, across modalities, across disciplines and across the clinical and sporting worlds.
-
Knowing who else is in the room, and when to open the door to them, changes outcomes. This is a place to build that knowledge, so patients get to the right practitioners at the right time.
-
Return-to-play clearance is not the end of the story. The Concussion Academy is committed to raising awareness of the systemic physiological consequences of head trauma and what addressing them fully actually requires.
-
Every concussion that is well managed is a step away from the long-term neurological consequences we are all working to prevent. CTE, MND, early-onset dementia. The stakes are high and the window for better care is now.
-
Practitioners, researchers, clubs, organisations and the people living with concussion are all part of this. The Academy is a place where that community can learn, connect and grow together.
-
The gut-brain axis, the neuroinflammatory cascade, the hormonal and energetic consequences of head trauma, these are not fringe ideas. They are evidence-grounded, clinically significant and currently missing from most concussion management. The Academy is here to change that.
Who Concussion Academy is for
Health Professionals Working with Concussion
GPs, physiotherapists, neurologists, neuropsychologists, osteopaths, psychologists, specialist optometrists, audiologists and beyond. Concussion touches every corner of clinical practice. This section is for practitioners who want to deepen their understanding of the full concussion care picture, including who else is in the room and when collaboration changes outcomes.
Naturopaths and Nutritionists
Naturopathic medicine is uniquely positioned in concussion recovery, working in the systemic physiological territory that other disciplines are not trained to address. This section is for naturopaths who want to develop their clinical confidence in this space, understand how their work connects to the broader care team, and contribute more fully to patient outcomes.
Sporting Organisations and Clubs
Clubs, codes, academies and performance environments are on the front line of concussion. This section is for the people making decisions about player welfare, from coaches and trainers to high performance staff and club leadership, who want to understand what good concussion management actually looks like beyond the return-to-play protocol.
For all - Concussion Academy Podcast
The science matters. So do the stories. The Concussion Academy Podcast is where clinical expertise and lived experience come together, bringing researchers, practitioners and people who have navigated concussion firsthand into the same conversation. Because understanding this injury from every angle is how we truly advance care and improve outcomes.
Speaking & Events
The conversation does not stop here. Concussion Academy is committed to bringing the science of concussion recovery into rooms where it can create real change. From conferences and practitioner events to sporting organisations and community forums, the more we share what we know, the better we serve the people living with the consequences of these injuries. By broadening the concussion conversation, we move closer to a future where collaborative, whole-person care is the standard, not the exception.
