Louise Cork
Clinical Naturopath | BHSc. Nat
Specialising in systemic concussion recovery
I speak on the systemic physiology of concussion, the gut-brain connection, and what recovery requires under the surface. Every talk is tailored to your audience and needs | For naturopaths and nutritionists, doctors and allied health, sporting clubs, schools or any organisation working with contact sport and head impact risk.
Shifting Concussion Care Beyond the Brain
When it comes to concussion, give me a microphone and I will speak! Through the lens of whole-person physiology and the microbiome, I bring the systemic and gut-brain dimensions of concussion to sporting organisations, allied health conferences, and practitioner audiences. Available as keynote, workshop, panel, podcast or webinar, in person or virtual. Full speaker kit available on request.
Speaking Topics:
-
Concussion is not isolated to the brain. It triggers a full-body cascade of physiological changes. Exploring concussion as a systemic injury helps audiences understand why rest isn't enough, why symptoms can persist, and why some people recover while others don't.
-
The microbiome plays a direct role in the neuroinflammation that follows a head injury, and can perpetuate it long after the injury itself has healed. Drawing on current research and clinical experience, this topic gives practitioners a working understanding of that connection, and what it means for how they assess and support recovery.
-
Current protocols are not built to assess whether the underlying physiology has actually resolved. This topic looks at what that gap means for long-term health outcomes, and how addressing the pathophysiology directly leads to a more complete and quicker recovery.
-
Repeated head impacts carry a real risk of long-term neurocognitive decline, and it's a growing public health concern for anyone regularly exposed to them, from contact sport to high-risk occupations. This topic covers the current research, the underlying drivers of that risk, and the risk mitigation strategies that can shift long-term health outcomes.
These are a starting point to give you an idea of the different topics that could be covered. Every talk is tailored to your needs and audience.
FAQs
Is there a practitioner who speaks on systemic concussion recovery?
Yes. I work exclusively in concussion and post-concussion syndrome recovery, with clinical expertise in the physiology involved, the most recent research, and case studies. My perspective is systemic and gut-brain focused, an angle most concussion-focused events don't otherwise cover.
Can a naturopath speak credibly on concussion and brain injury?
Yes. My work is grounded in the gut-brain axis, neuroinflammation, and the physiological mechanisms of concussion recovery, drawn from clinical practice and current research. I work alongside conventional sports medicine and allied health care, contributing a systemic perspective, with microbiome perspective they don't otherwise provide.
Where are you available to speak?
I’m available to speak online or in-person by arrangement.
What makes your speaking different from other concussion talks?
I focus on whole health, how pre-existing health matters, what happens physiologically after the point of injury, and the systemic and gut-brain mechanisms that determine recovery. It's the part of the concussion conversation most audiences haven't heard, and it changes how organisations and practitioners think about long-term outcomes.
Do you have a speaker kit?
Yes, please enquire for your event and I will forward it to you.
What is your speaking experience?
I have extensive public speaking experience in professional and community based settings. I've featured on 7 podcasts discussing concussion and gut-brain physiology, and hosted a webinar on systemic concussion recovery with over 260 registrants.
